The magic of moodboards

Before we rewind the clock and delve into the nitty-gritty of layout planning, dirt work, and all the foundational steps that got us to where we are today, let's take a moment to appreciate the magic of Canva and moodboards.

Early on in the build, I realized that my scattered thoughts, endless Pinterest pins and iphone screenshots weren't cutting it anymore. I needed a better way to organize my ideas and visualize how everything would come together. Enter Canva, my newfound love and saving grace in this whirlwind of decision-making.

Canva has been my go-to tool for bringing my visions to life. From creating mood boards to mapping out color schemes and design concepts, it's been an absolute game-changer. The best part? It's ridiculously fun! There's something incredibly satisfying about dragging and dropping elements, tweaking colors, and watching everything seamlessly come together.

As soon as we started making selections for our home, I created a page in Canva for every area in our home (i.e. powder room, upstairs hallway, primary bedroom, kid room #1, etc.). Then, with every selection I made, I would find a photo of that selection online, screenshot it, and then drag and drop that photo into my Canva page for that room. If I made a change to the selection, I made sure to update it in Canva so that at the next vendor meeting, I was prepared and remembered what my selections were for that room already. It is so hard to envision a completely new build, making decisions for every room all at the same time. Using Canva has really made this easier and I’ve really found it fun. Jury is still out on whether or not my process “worked.” I guess we’ll know more when things starting coming in if they all look good together.
